I Have been working on this posthumous portrait of my Mom, Betty Louise the last couple days. I used an old photo for reference, one of her good days, but gave her the grin I see when I see her spirit. I used water mixable oils, and later glazed in with cold wax and oil pigments, to tone, My mother was a Cape Artist, and before that studied at The Wallingford Art Center, in Pa. At 12, She took me to my first oil painting studio with Cyril Gardner, an English gentleman who was a Main Line Philadelphia society painter in residence at Wallingford.. I contemplated painting in her set of Cheap Joe brushes, but thinking that was too much, more detail than was needed. I am sure we will have that conversation back and forth until we decide. I was going to gift it, but I know now, after discussion, this would never appease, and just never replace Mom, so I’ll let her hang around my studio…
